The Idea
In 2022 there needs to be a way to digitalize family recipes. Why not expanding to every single member of the family? A whole community contributing to one big legacy.
Childhood recipes can be relived, and cooking be experienced as a new way to feel the connection to one’s roots. Food has been bringing people together for centuries, but it isn’t as easy once every family member lives in a different city, country or even continent.
Food’s Roots works as digital cookbook, giving the opportunity to add and cook recipes, while also providing your family tree.
Development
In this personal project, I designed the according app for this idea. Starting with a written brainstorm of what types of screens the app should include, the main values and messages of the branding made themselves clear in a following mind map.
In this mindmap the most important attributes for the app are highlighted;
What feelings are connected to family and cooking? How can this be achieved by the design of the app?
As written in the bottom right: fun serifs as a combination of playfulness and tradition, colorful design but toned down to achieve the same combination and round, flowy forms to envelope the homeliness and clear and structured design to implement the thought of an archive.
